Introduction

Artumafursi is one of the woreda(districts) which is found in oromo zone and  bordered on the north shoa zone , on afar region and one of the other woredas surrounding them would bordered, when we see the boundary and which as far from capital city of the addis abeba 300 km, and far from regional capital city bahirdar 580 km and far from oromo zone capital city Kemisie 25 km far away. The woredas land scape situation is 28.5% of the land escape is mountains, 38% of the land escape situation was covered by plane land, 6.6% the land was rift valley(George) and 4.4% the land is swampy area and 22.5% of the total land was semi plane and mountains. When we see the woredas climatic condition was 76% the climatic condition is deserts(hot) and the rest 24% the climatic condition is frigid (cold). The woredas temperature(air) condition dessert air condition would covered 76% of the area(region), 24% of the region would frigid, type of air condition would practiced. When we see daily high temperature record (35⁰c) and the least temperature(15⁰c) types of temperature would recovered in different seasonal variation.

When we see the religious practice(habit) in the woredas, there is different follower of religion practiced, among those of them, major of them Muslim i.e. 97% of the population was muslim followers the rest of 03% coptic Christian followers. 89% agricultural practice was the major income source of the woreda the rest 11% was government employer and trader. In the woreda there is 24 rural kebele and one urban(city) kebeles. In the woreda there is 49 primary school, 3 secondary school, one preparatory school and one technical and vocational  training college school. In the woreda there is 22 health post and 6 health center would be found and  there is total population 109681, out of 109681 population 54204 were male and 55477 were female.

Artumafursi Woreda Historical background

On other side beside to the above historical background of the region, like historical background of the woreda, the area socio cultural background of the area describe as follows, in the area, the major population settled in area was Oromo population(community), beside to the Oromo population the amhara community would acclimated 50 year ago. The major Oromo clan, which is settled in area was, Nahole, Amaro, Jarso, Dubana, Gelan, Hariro, Abado, jale, Marutaya, Galasha, etc types of clan would respectively.

How to named the woreda Artumafursi Woreda ?

Artumafursi is one of  woreda which is found in amhara regional of the special zone which is oromo zone and  early political demarcation map and with political and regional situation which governed by the ‘erist’ and ‘gulit’ system, Under feudal system in emperor region which is governed under the wollo regional state. By the time of emperor the wollo regional state capital city is desie. By time of the feudal region artumafursi was governed by upper emperor family leader and collaborators which is administrated by different leader respectively.

After, the downfall of the emperor region and our country turn back to socialist reiot types of political ideology(communist) after the beginning of this time, our country Ethiopia unstable and coming to choose disorder by the dergue region many political activist and political action coming in to different political ideology, although our regions was one the woreda which is administer under wollo region. After our country Ethiopia became to the socialist ideology, our region(i.e wollo) become restructure by the new administrative region and become to wollo divide to north and south wollo and our district artumafursi incorporate in to south wollo administrative region, by this time our woreda artumafursi was becoming to the hierarchy of the regional administration position ‘Awuraja’ level for long period of time.

After the downfall of military junta(dergue) political region and when EPRDF coming to power may 20, 1983 e.c and EPRDF was by the newly reorganized early political administration as newly our region takes regional name i.e. region 03(three) and their name was amhara regional state and becoming those any different administrative ranks in different position would be changed, administrative names by the peoples demography their language, culture and tradition and giving rights to different nation to govern their people the nation by the EPRDF region, those create administrative ranks name was zonal, woreda and kebelles level administrative. Although, early those governor of the artumafursi leader was elected and sent to lead our woredas by the legacy of wollo hierarchy leader nomination would be changed and coming to rule by the local administer by themselves. After 1986 e.c, the amhara regional state give to administer those different nation of the region, i.e. waghimra, north wollo, south wollo and oromo nation at zonal level by their speaking language and their cultural resemblance. In the zonal level of oromo zone oromiffa was one of the prominent administrative and working language. In this oromo zone, there was more than 6(six) administrative woredas incorporated.

After the oromo administrative zone organized artumafursi was one of them which incorporated administrative woredas and when it’s flourish as woreda level administration their capital city was chireti city. After those different kebelles coming to artumafursi and coming to large administrative area and need to come head quarter from chireti to chefarobit to it’s because of strategic area and suitable for administration and deal with local resident the woredas coming to say artumafursi. Early our woreda merged with after woredas and called artuma jile, when we see the total land(area) covered by the woreda and the total population which is settled in the woreda coming to large, by this time in 1994 the oromo house of speaker(council) declared this woreda split in to two(2) i.e. artumafursi and jile timuga and our woreda artumafursi’s capital city became chefa robit was organized.

The artumafursi woreda was bounded by afar region, from amhra region, by north shoa zone and bounded by zonal woredas bounded and more than 109681 thousand people would be settled in the woreda estimated. This woreda was contemporary have more than 27 kebele administration organized.

In general the name of our woreda traced from two merged types of word, which is from “Artuma” and “Fursi” let see the word term. The word ‘’artuma’ its trace from ‘artume’’ word artume was traced from, which is the name of one locally settled fellow person, which is administer of the areas for along period of time and finally the name of the person traced to the name of the area know currently which is called artuma. Like the name artuma traced(inherited) from the person who is administer of the areas name, to the name of the areas name, the word furse, the popular person which is administer the area for along replied of time and the name traced from furse currently what we called fursi.

The name of Capital city of the Woreda

The name of capital city of the woredas, chefarobit like the woredas name, it is merge of two words, i.e. from Chefa and Robit, let see the two words meaning one by one. The Chefa means, from the names of , the areas was so, swampy and watershed area and grassed lands. Robit means, weakly third day Wednesday which is called in Amharic ”erob” and the day erob was the weakly market day of the area and finally the name traced from erob to robit and served as the name of the woredas, which is temporarily called chefa robit.
